Abstract
Selma Sabanovic (Indiana University - Bloomington) explains the roots of Japan's cultural embrace of robots and artificial intelligence. The Japanese heritage of sophisticated doll making, Shinto spiritualism, demographics and the fascination with technology have all contributed to the widespread adoption of robotic machines. (The event and program series were made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities)
