Abstract
A close up scene of a female Morpho peleides butterfly. Shot in San Felipe, Venezuela by Mitsunori (Mitch) Denda and Roger Manrique on October 31, 2004. The butterfly was released to observe its flight after a close up scene was filmed. The Morpho peleides is an iridescent tropical butterfly found in Mexico, Central America, northern South America,Paraguay and Trinidad. The brilliant blue color of the butterfly's wings is caused by the diffraction of the light from millions of tiny scales on its wings. It uses this to frighten away predators, by flashing its wings.
