Abstract
Between 1979 and 2000, Dr. Allen B. Weisse, a Professor of Cardiology for many years at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School, conducted oral history interviews of 16 pioneers in the fields of cardiology and cardiac surgery, born in the late 19th or early 20th century. Interviewees include Charles Bailey, Andre Cournand, William Dock, Willem Koff, Richard Bing, John Kirklin, Arthur Guyton, Michael DeBakey, Eugene Braunwauld and Willis Hurst, who later became President Lyndon Johnson's personal physician, among others. Dr. Weisse published a 448 page book of this work, entitled Heart to Heart: The Twentieth Century Battle Against Cardiac Disease: An Oral History, published by Rutgers University Press November 2, 2002.
