Using moodle for online course delivery

Abstract
Moodle provided an effective interface for the online learning format. Any discipline that uses online teaching or needs a record of student work for accreditation or assessment purposes can benefit from this project as it allows discussion, journaling, access to materials, and submissions in a single seamless platform while keeping a digital record of work. As the course was developed, it became clear students found the experience beneficial by tapping into their interests and engaging them with the new technology. Course materials were easier to review and revise on a flexible schedule as it was available continuously. Moodle increased student retention and the quality of work but showed that students needed clearly delineated tasks with specified due dates. This new platform also allowed for a better final product to be created by each student as drafts of work were revised and a final portfolio of work created and posted. The course content can easily be reused and as the subject matter changes; adjustments to the master Moodle course can readily be made to improve learning. The portfolios can also be archived by students and moved to individual ePortfolios as part of university assessment plans to meet accreditation requirements.
