Abstract
Many educators have been early adopters of pedagogical technologies and have worked hard to keep pace with rapid innovations over the past decade. Many others started later but continue to join in the technology revolution in education. With a cornucopia of options, how can the technologically novice or experienced educator stay informed? What is the range of technologies available to the educator at this point in time? What are the emerging trends in education technology? What are the pedagogical theoretical considerations based on which the educator determines the technologies to use within a curriculum? What are the motivations for use of technology in the curriculum? This presentation seeks to consolidate the available literature on education technologies to understand the motivations for its use. It seeks to provide a model flowchart that can be used by educators and educational developers to select appropriate technologies based on the pedagogical goals of the curriculum. The goal is to develop a model that keeps course content and learning at the forefront while technology is used as a tool to facilitate learning.
