Abstract
This presentation highlights Passaic County Community College's decision-making process approach to piloting online portfolios to support student learning and assessment. It features the college's experiences after 18 months of an e-portfolio initiative from 3 perspectives: at the institutional level, for departmental requirements and at a course level. Electronic portfolios are frequently used to enable students to use new media technologies, do reflective writing, and document and showcase their learning across courses, disciplines and semesters. It is more difficult to extract institutional assessment and PCCC wanted data on successes over 4 semesters before making a decision to use portfolios with all students. Examples of portfolio use in GenEd courses across disciplines and in the Early Childhood Education major are featured along with data collected by Institutional Research.
