Abstract
To study the Sunflowers sequence is to chart van Gogh's meteoric rise from apprentice to master - and subsequent ruin. In telling the incredible story of how these 11 paintings came to be, this program follows the doomed trajectory of the relationship between van Gogh and his would-be mentor, Paul Gauguin. Van Gogh's unprecedented use of color and texture and the method to his seemingly mad technique are also covered, as is the tireless work of his sister-in-law Johanna Van Gogh to promote awareness of his works after his death. A BBCW Production.
