Abstract
Tribute to the role of visionary Black lawyer Charles Hamilton Houston in the cases which led to the landmark Supreme Court decision in Brown vs. Board of Education. Houston, as chief counsel to the NAACP, launched a number of strategic, precedent-setting cases that targeted segregated education as the key to undermining the Jim Crow system. Gives a history of segregation, Jim Crow Laws, the NAACP, and biographical information on persons influential in the desegregation movement.
