Abstract
This fifth program covers the years 1811-1850. American Indian leaders with great vision make a valiant attempt to retain their culture and continue to live on their ancestral lands west of the Appalachians. Without these valiant efforts, it is doubtful the Indian nations east of the Mississippi River and along the west coast would have survived at all. This original, eight-part series of half-hour shows documents the history of American Indian achievement, its defining role in the growth of the country, and its influence on current events. The series highlights the many contributions of American Indians that have influenced and shaped the history of the United States.
