Abstract
Online education offers an opportunity for educators to explore and innovate a virtual learning landscape and renegotiate the material and conceptual structures of education. However, trying to embed classroom learning into a virtual space perverts the presence of creative reconstruction, pedagogical playfulness, and the potential to re-imagine teaching and learning for the 21st century. These shortcomings are symptoms of a wider problem inherent in the design and application of online learning software. Critiquing the software’s ability to facilitate meaningful discussions will illustrate that the technology itself obstructs community interaction, imploring a need to explore alternative virtual spaces and cyberpedagogic techniques.
