Abstract
Sediment is a uniquely valuable commodity within the marine environment. Oil, natural gas, coal, diamonds, gravel, sand, tin and titanium are all associated with marine sediment. Perhaps the most famous potential deep sea deposits are manganese nodules. In the future, they could prove to be a valuable source of important minerals, including copper, nickel and cobalt.
