Abstract
Sulfuric acid is the most commonly used compound produced by the chemical industry. It is most frequently utilized in the making of fertilizers, but is also used in the manufacture of gasolines, dyes and industrial explosives, as well as in other chemical reagents, like boric acid and synthetic detergents. The gaseous emissions from sulfuric acid plants are continually monitored for sulfur dioxide and NOX. The data is then transmitted, normally on a daily basis, to the local air quality management district. Stack emissions are tested annually by an outside contractor. Finally, environmental regulations also apply to transportation, and there are strict health and safety precautions for plant workers.
