Abstract
Every wall, every car--almost every object we come in contact with--has some sort of paint or surface coating. With the growth and sophistication of the paint and surface coating industries have come environmental and health concerns. Most of these relate to volatile organic compounds (or VOC's), the solvents that evaporate quickly into the atmosphere, resulting in ozone production. The Clean Air Amendments of 1990 affected the paint and surface coating industries by creating standards for hazardous content, hazardous air pollutants--or HAPS--and VOC's emitted into the air.
