Abstract
To keep the nation's fleet of military aircraft painted requires thousand of gallons of paint and primer, and a year-round effort. At military facilities like Hill Air Force Base, the past use of hazardous liquid solvents to remove old paint left large areas of ground contamination requiring a massive clean-up effort. Not all the research and development in surface coatings has been devoted to the coatings themselves. New methods for stripping painted surfaces have been developed as well. One of these uses plastic media blasting in placed of liquid solvents.
