Abstract
With the realization that pesticides pose a serious danger to local ecosystems and, therefore, do not represent the best approach to pest control, researchers began looking for alternative tactics. One approach they came up with was biological control using parasites, predators and pathogens. A natural predator called the cotesia is a good example. This tiny wasp has done an excellent job against the sugar cane bore, a pest which, if left unchecked, can destroy an entire sugar crop.
