Abstract
Over the years, there has been a trend away from coatings that emit volatile organic compounds. One of the more exciting developments in this regard has been the use of powder coatings. Powder coatings are applied as dry, finely divided particles that form a smooth, even layer on the workpiece. The powder is a mixture of polyester, epoxy and acrylic resins that are extruded and ground into the consistency of baby powder. There are many everyday objects that are powder coated--from bicycle frames and appliances to exercise equipment and aircraft.
