Abstract
Critical incidents that threaten the life or safety of a loved one are sources of stress that cannot be unanticipated. For several city officials in Riverside, California October 6, 1998 is a date they will never forget. A gunmen entered City Council chambers and began firing at the mayor and council members. Several people were critically injured before the SWAT team rescued the hostages just 18 minutes after the ordeal had begun.
