Abstract
Both the environment in which a child matures and his or her genetic nature contribute to aggressive behavior. Researchers studying a family in which male siblings all committed violent criminal acts found that the brothers shared a certain gene abnormality. In the laboratory, when this same gene was removed from mice the animals began to act very aggressively. Maleness in general is also linked to aggression and violence. Men commit almost ten times more murders and more violent crimes than do women.
