Abstract
Many sexually transmitted diseases have taken a backseat to headlines about HIV, but they still take their toll. The rate of infection is increasing worldwide, incorporating diseases that have been around for years as well as other deadly organisms. we're just now beginning to understand. Four "h" viruses linked to sexual contact are chronic diseases that cannot be cured: herpes, human papilloma virus, HIV, and hepatitis B. Women are often at greater risk than men; even newborns can be affected.
