Abstract
The Human Genome Project has revealed a number of genes that contribute to genetic diseases. In fact the onset of a disease that has genetic roots can be detected decades before the first symptom. Such extraordinary advances have generated a host of complex social and ethical issues including the development of rules for risk assessment and protecting people's privacy in relation to insurance and employment. Even at a personal level, how many people really want to know what the future has in store?
