Abstract
Because of their family history some couples request screening for recessive genetic diseases prior to conceiving a child. If they are already pregnant, and both parents turn out to be carriers for diseases such as Tay Sachs of Sickle Cell, tests can be conducted to see if the fetus is affected. If the fetus has the disease then the pregnant couple can opt to do nothing, to terminate the pregnancy, or attempt to correct the condition in utero.
