Abstract
Diarrheal illnesses and other diseases are directly related to contaminated water. For the past several decades the Carter Center has led a worldwide campaign to eradicate two water-related diseases: river blindness and guinea worm diseases. Dr. Donald Hopkins reviews the prevention strategies they are using. Water quality is often perceived as a local issue, but because water circulates around the globe and through the soil, contamination in one area eventually spreads.
