Abstract
If only one or two of a patient's coronary arteries are narrowed, a physician may suggest an angioplasty procedure. Dr. David Faxon was a young physician in Boston in the early 1980s when he attended a session in which Andreas Greuentzig presented an abstract on the procedure in which a balloon catheter is placed inside the arteries of the heart and blown up. We watch Dr. Faxon perform what is now the largest coronary procedure performed in the United States. Although angioplasty can be highly successful, restenosis or narrowing generally begins once again within 3 months.
