Abstract
Eighty percent of women who are stricken with breast cancer have no family history of the disease. One factor that contributes to their susceptibility is age. Breast cancer is rare in women under 20, but increases from age 20 to 50. Another factor appears to be a woman's cumulative exposure to ovarian hormones, particularly estrogen. It is important to be aware of cancer's warning signals and to check out anything that seems suspicious. Early detection is key to cancer survival.
