Abstract
In the last few years, a new breed of treatment has emerged in the fight against cancer. Called biomodulation, it is the manipulation of the body's own immune system to get rid of the cancer. When traditional treatment methods failed to stop the advance of Doreen Gerber's ovarian cancer, doctors replaced a defective gene thought to cause the cancer with healthy genetic material. Thus far, results are encouraging, although she will continue to be monitored. Another class of drugs known as angiogenesis-inhibiting drugs are in clinical trials. They cut off the blood supply to tumors depriving them of the nourishment necessary for growth.
