Abstract
Before any drug is approved for use by the Federal Drug Administration it must be rigorously tested, not only in the laboratory but with patients. Today most children with cancer and young men with testicular cancer are being cured with new drugs that are now on the scene. Some critics denounce clinical trials on the basis of their cost, the potential risk to participants, and conflict of interest that may exist between drug companies and researchers. Still many scientists believe that such trials are essential.
