Abstract
At Hollenbeck Home, one of the country's oldest licensed residential centers, Rosaline and Ching-U Ip found a way to maintain their independence, yet be assured of support when they needed it. In addition to the residential side, Hollenbeck has its own nursing unit for the time when greater care may be necessary. However, this is not the only reason people choose to live in a retirement community. As in the case of the Ips, Rosaline sought the companionship of congregate living, while Ching-U was reluctant to abandon the way of life they had known for years.
