Abstract
There are systematic errors that are often made in judging one alternative versus another, one treatment versus another. It is important to be able to interpret the kinds of words physicians use to indicate probabilities or risk, and the likelihood of side effects or remission. Doctors need to provide information to their patients in ways that help them make the choice that is right for them. The partnership between them needs to be particularly strong in making critical care decisions.
