Abstract
Dr. Andrew Leuchter, Director of Adult Psychiatry at UCLA, talks about first steps in treating depression. Initially, Dr. Leuchter explains, doctors look for symptoms that often accompany depression, such as problems with sleep, energy, appetite, sexual function and anxiety. Once an individual's psychological and psychiatric profile has been completely assessed, a thorough medical history is done. Sometimes this can reveal that there is a medical problem at the root of an individual's depression.
