Abstract
In an attempt to reconcile science and free will, Immanuel Kant distinguishes between the phenomenal world of nature and the noumenal world of ideas in which morality and responsibility reside. It is in the noumenal world that we exert free will. Most people do not care if the universe is determined as long as their lives are not determined. They want the things that really matter them to influence their decisions and allow them to act in an informed, sensitive, and reasoned way.
