Abstract
Darwin's theory of evolution contends that through a process of natural selection organisms that can adapt survive; the rest perish. What was thought to be the work of a Supreme Being is now an evolutionary process. There is a difference between order and purpose. Order is a pattern, a regularity. Purpose implies a plan, a goal. Paley saw purpose in nature;Darwin saw only order. Philosophers disagree on whether this means there is a God who sets it all in motion or there is not.
