Abstract
Immanuel Kant, born in 1724 sought to resolve a controversy that had been brewing for over a century. Rationalists argued that knowledge is based on reasoning inside our minds. Empirists disagreed saying that all knowledge must come from the senses. This video examines Immanuel Kant's position that we interpret the world through a priori constructs of the mind. We also examine the views of Wilhelm von Humboldt on how these constructs may vary among language groups and cultures.
