Abstract
The realist side of the quantum mechanics debate is headed by Albert Einstein, the most eminent scientist of the era. Einstein proposes that if quantum theory breaks down categories such as space and time we should look for a different set of concepts to describe the underlying structure of the universe. Einstein spends the last 20 years of his life in an unsuccessful attempt to develop a unified field theory that would provide a realist explanation for quantum phenomena. For many years, Bohr is seen as having won the debate, but in recent work in the field is developing new and alternative interpretations.
