Abstract
Philosopher Daniel Dennett talks about memes, which he calls the cultural equivalent of the gene in biology. According to Professor Dennett, a meme is an idea, but not just any idea. To qualify as a meme, an idea must be memorable and reproducible. He also observes that a meme needs to have a host, which is the role the human brain plays. Once a meme is in a brain, there are numerous pathways by which it can get passed on, such as through speech or in writing.
