Abstract
Philosopher Hilary Putnam continues his discussion of whether or not the external world is independent of our minds. At one time he made the statement that there is no real world independent of our conceptual system--a statement which he now regrets. Professor Putnam says that what he meant was that "...the world which is independent of our minds does not dictate one unique set of concepts which must be used to describe it." Professor Putnam goes on to argue for a return to common sense in settling arguments about such questions.
