Abstract
Philosopher Hilary Putnam explains his "brain in a vat" theory. This theory calls into question basic human assumptions about knowledge and reality on the grounds that we have no way of knowing if what we think we see and experience and believe to be real actually is real. The logic behind this conclusion is based on the notion that if we were simply brains in a vat receiving stimulation from a computer, we'd come to the same conclusions and would be wrong.
