Abstract
Philosopher Ian Hacking talks about changes in the way human nature has been viewed over time. From the time of Aristotle through the Enlightenment, human nature was seen as being an essential characteristic of what it is to be human, in which the very point of living would be to live a good life and to fulfill what's appropriate for a human being. Nowadays, Professor Hacking observes, there's very little interest in doing or funding serious studies of human nature. Instead, the scientific community seems much more interested in looking at differences between normal and deviant behavior.
