Abstract
Philosopher Ian Hacking expands on his remarks about the link between the classification of actions and the way actions are viewed and how that, in turn, can affect subsequent actions. As an example, he talks about the trend in recent years of encouraging men to "get in touch with" their feelings, and how this has affected the field of psychology, as well as corporate dynamics and perspectives. In the words of Professor Hacking, "An idea about feelings and expressing feelings becomes institutionalized and even changes our perceptions of what feelings are."
