Abstract
Philosopher Charles Taylor continues his discussion of the self, tracing the evolution of the concept over time. Professor Taylor talks about the modern perspective of the self, which he describes as being two kinds of internal, self-examination that are very much at odds. This first of these consists of taking the things that we desire and making them over in a rational form. The second aspect of the modern self argues against the first approach, looking instead for a new means by which to express what we truly want and desire.
