Abstract
In recent years, free speech limitations have been driven by equality issues, particularly concerns about hate speech that targets minority groups. The fact that it is a crime to deny the existence of the Holocaust in some European countries would be unthinkable in the U. S. Free speech guarantees tend to be applied in a way that is neutral with respect to the content of speech. The exception is when what is said is likely to result in violence.
