Abstract
The inclusive language of the U. S. Constitution was not reflected in the way it was initially applied.. Many people who were here at the founding were excluded from the country's political processes: white women, blacks, American Indians, and unpropertied white males. However, the fact that the language of the Constitution was inclusive provided an opening for these excluded groups to make demands on the system and be brought into the picture. It has been a long struggle.
