Abstract
Political participation, in all the ways it is practiced, is critical to the health of a nation. Despite grumblings about the political process and the disappointing performance of recent years, the right to vote is the cornerstone of democracy. A lone voice may not attract much attention, but when a group of citizens organize their voices grow louder and gain power. In the words of Robert Reich, "We are not going to survive without activists, without idealists...without people who care and are going to put their time and themselves right on the line."
