Abstract
We need politicians; it is the way our democracy works. At the beginning of the republic people went to Congress with the idea of serving one term and then going home. This self-imposed term limit may seem admirable, but it did not allow people the time to gain the skills legislating requires. In contrast, most people today have held public office before they run for Congress and already know what that means. They no longer depend on the party to provide all the sustenance and support they need.
