Abstract
Each year Fortune magazine conducts a survey to determine the most powerful lobbying groups. Money is not always a factor. The NIFB, the small business lobby and their push for fewer taxes and less regulation, is always near the top. But the number one lobbying organization according to Fortune's survey is the American Association of Retired Persons, a 33 million member organization whose goal is to protect Social Security and Medicare. The voting record of its members makes it a formidable force.
