Abstract
Public officials and public bodies like Congress are criticized by the press. As Barbara Sinclair points out, "You want a skeptical media, but too often the media goes across the line and interprets everything that's done in Washington through the lens of these people are self-serving hypocrites." Many people are deterred from public service as a result, fearing destruction of their reputations by the press. Lani Guinier, a nominee for Assistant Attorney General, learned this lesson all too well.
