Abstract
Mickey Edwards, Jim McDermott, and Loretta Sanchez tell what it is like to walk into the House chambers for the first time as a newly elected members of Congress. Congress, like most national legislatures, has been dominated by men and moneyed interests. Gwendolyn Mink recounts her mother Patsy's experience as the first woman of color elected to the House. Sociologists often say that it is not until you get a critical mass of minorities or groups within an organization that it begins to change.
