Abstract
The gaps between rich and poor is widening, not only in the United States but around the world. Many people are working more than one job and still find it difficult to make ends meet. Often they do not have the necessary training and education to get a good job; nor can they find affordable childcare. William Julius Wilson relates the social and economic changes from 1950 to 1990 in three Chicago neighborhoods that represent the historic core of the black belt.
