Abstract
Congressman Jim McDermott argues that it is government's responsibility to see that everyone has healthcare that cannot be taken away. The United States, Mexico and Turkey lead the industrialized nations of the world in numbers of people without health insurance. Because individual healthcare policies are quite expensive, most industrialized countries provide coverage for people through a single payer system, guaranteed sets of benefits paid for by the government that are available to everyone.
