Abstract
Former White House press secretary Mike McCurry explains how and why news organizations often cover events the way they do, especially in the case of high interest news stories. "It becomes kind of this moment of high drama in which the press has only one speed on the throttle and it's fast forward...and you're going to get nothing but, and everything else will be drowned out...the economics argues for it, the way in which you hold and build and captivate an audience argues for it."
