Abstract
Former Secretary of Labor and university professor Robert Reich talks about the "...enormous competition in any White House, in any administration, for the President's attention." Secretary Reich says that, for the most part, he went through what he calls "normal channels," meaning the President's Chief of Staff. On occasion, however, he acknowledges using other approaches to getting time with the President, including waiting for him outside meetings at the White House, or jumping into the presidential limousine. "I'd sit there right in front of him in that jump seat," Secretary Reich recalls. "It made my colleagues very nervous whenever I did that."
